4 Places to Enjoy the Canary Islands with Your Furry Friends
Adventures are always better with your dog! Discover 4 places in the Canary Islands to enjoy with your pet.
More than just our friends—they’re endless sources of energy and joy—they’re part of the family! And as such, they deserve to enjoy and relax in the Canary Islands’ sunshine just as much as you do.
Want to discover 4 spots on the islands where you can have fun with your furry friend? Get ready to head out—let’s get started!
1. A Day in Punta del Hidalgo (Tenerife)
In Punta del Hidalgo, in northern Tenerife, you’ll find the perfect spot to go hiking with your dog. The trail that runs between Chinamada and this coastal town is ideal for enjoying the contrast between the sea and the Anaga Mountains. The perfect way to cap off the day is to take a quick dip with your dog in the volcanic pools at La Punta. It’s a natural wonder enjoyed equally by visitors and locals alike.
Sholeo TIP: Always use the pools that are farthest away to be considerate of other swimmers; always carry a leash and/or harness with you, as well as bags for your dog’s waste.
2. A Dog-Friendly Afternoon Hike in the Mountains of Gran Canaria
The trails in the upper part of the island are a place where your dog will have nonstop fun. The hike up to Roque Nublo, with trails such as the one from Cruz de Tejeda to Artenara, or the recreational areas of Llanos de la Pez, where your furry friend can run free, are places where you can both relax surrounded by Gran Canaria’s natural beauty.
SHOLEO TIP: Always keep your dog on a leash to show respect for other hikers and to stay in control in areas where livestock roam freely.

3. From Park to Park in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Just a few minutes from your room in our Flats in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, there are endless possibilities for you and your furry friend to enjoy yourselves equally. There are several public parks—such as Parque Romano, San Telmo, Santa Catalina, Las Rehoyas, Doramas, and La Paterna—that feature designated dog-friendly areas. Plus, very close to your accommodations in the capital of Gran Canaria, you’ll find several parks exclusively for dogs (dog parks).
SHOLEO TIP: We recommend that you always keep your dog on a leash and/or in a muzzle if it belongs to a breed classified as potentially dangerous by the city government.
4. A Trip to the Beach at El Cabezo (Tenerife)
An incredible beach where you can have fun with your travel buddy awaits you about 50 minutes from Sholeo Lodges Los Gigantes, in El Médano. In the El Cabezo area —which is officially dog-friendly — you and your travel buddy can enjoy a refreshing swim while watching kites soar through the sky, kitesurfers glide across the water, and the sea stretch out before you.
Whether you stay in our lodges or our Flats, at Sholeo Lodges your pet is always welcome at our accommodations in Tenerife or Gran Canaria to enjoy a unique experience in the Canary Islands. Life in the cholas (with your paws in the sand) awaits you in the best climate in the world!
